The iPad 3 will not be released for AT LEAST 1 more year. Apple would stand to lose a lot of funds if they released two iterations of the very same item within a fiscal period.
Personally, I am going to wait for the iPad three to be released, even if it takes two years, simply because the imaginable upgrades would far outweigh the upgrades that are present in the iPad 2.
If you should have an iPad within the year, then you will have to acquire the iPad 2, if not I suggest you wait.
