The iPad looks okay, but I actually want a lot more of a dedicated reader device, or at least one thing a lot more easy on the eyes than the iPad. So I'll be waiting on the next generation of the iPad or just purchase the next Kindle. I've read about some genuinely cool screens (Qi or Mirasol) Amazon could use to incorporate color into the Kindle, so... Has any person heard anything or have any ideas about when the subsequent Kindle will come out?

They haven't produced any sort of announcement yet and they'll probably keep it pretty close until its time for the release. So no new kindle on the horizon, but in 3-4 months? who knows.
